Property attached, Rs 6 lakh seized under NDPS Act in Shopian: Police | KNO

Srinagar, Dec 26 (KNO): In a major breakthrough against the drug menace, Police in Shopian on Thursday said to have attached a double-storey residential house worth Rs 14,76,579 and cash amount of Rs 6 lakh belongs to a notorious drug peddler namely Farooq Ahmad Koka son of Ghulam Mohammad Koka, resident of Melhura Zainapora. The action was taken under section 68-E read with 68-F(1) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The property attachment and the seizure of cash is linked to FIR No. 36/2024 of Police Station Zainapora and was executed in the presence of duly constituted Police team and the Executive Magistrate, ensuring full compliance with legal protocols, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). The property was identified as illegally acquired property during the course of investigation/enquiry conducted by Shopian Police. The property & the seized cash were prima facie acquired from illicit trafficking in narcotic drug and psychotropic substances by the owner, police said. “This action reaffirms the commitment of J&K Police to combat the drug menace. Local people of the area have hailed the initiative of Police with regard to the seizure of cash & attachment of immovable property, which has been raised/used from illicit trafficking of narcotics by the drug peddlers,” police said—(KNO)
